A commercial solar system has no fuel deliveries, no combustion and few moving parts — but “low maintenance” is not “no maintenance”. The difference between a system that performs to model for 25 years and one that quietly underdelivers is usually operational attention, most of it automated.

Monitoring is the maintenance

The foundation of O&M is knowing, every day, what the system generated versus what it should have generated given the weather. Panel-level or string-level monitoring turns faults into alerts rather than year-end surprises: a tripped string, a failing optimiser or a drifting inverter shows up as a gap against expectation within days. The physical schedule

  • Inverters are the hardest-working components — periodic inspection of cooling, connections and firmware keeps them inside warranty conditions.

  • Electrical inspection — torque checks, thermal imaging of connections and switchgear, cable condition — on a scheduled cycle appropriate to the installation.

The battery’s health is mostly determined by how it’s run. Cycling it pointlessly wears warranty life; running it flat against its limits costs capacity.
